Documents relating to the Risk Assessment process

The Gene Technology Regulator is responsible for protecting human health and safety and the environment by identifying and managing risks posed by, or as a result of, gene technology. Thus risk assessment is central to the functions of the Gene Technology Regulator. This page provides links to documents produced by the Regulator and the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator to support this function.

The Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plans (RARMPs) produced in response to licence applications proposing Dealings Involving Intentional Release (DIR) of GMOs into the Australian environment are included on the DIR page of GMO Record.

Risk Analysis Framework (RAF)

The Risk Analysis Framework represents a key document for informing applicants, stakeholders, the public and other domestic and international regulatory bodies about the rationale and approach adopted by the Regulator in undertaking risk analyses and arriving at risk management decisions and licence conditions.

Risk Assessment Reference Documents

These documents are written to support the Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plans (RARMPs) that are prepared in response to applications for dealings involving intentional release (DIRs) of GMOs into the environment. They address matters common to many DIR risk assessments, and will be referred to in relevant RARMPs.

Biology Documents

These documents are written to inform the Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plans (RARMPs) that are prepared in response to applications for dealings involving intentional release (DIRs).

The biology documents provide an overview of baseline biology information relevant to risk assessment of genetically modified forms of the species that may be released into the Australian environment.

The documents are updated from time to time but old versions can still be accessed.
