Gene Technology Advisory Committees
Call for nominations for the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee and the Gene Technology Ethics and Community Consultative Committee. Nominations close on 31 May 2010.
Nominations are called for the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee (GTTAC) and the Gene Technology Ethics and Community Consultative Committee (GTECCC). Appointments of suitably qualified individuals are usually for a period of three years.
The Gene Technology Act 2000 (the Act) represents the Australian Government’s component of a national regulatory scheme to protect the health and safety of people and the environment by identifying and managing risks posed by, or as a result of, gene technology. The Act established a statutory office holder, the Gene Technology Regulator (the Regulator) to maintain oversight of the regulatory system. The role of the Gene Technology Advisory Committees is to provide advice on request to the Regulator and the Ministerial Council.
GTTAC was established when the Act commenced in June 2001 and GTECCC was established as a result of amendments to the Act in 2007. GTTAC provides scientific and technical advice to the Regulator and the Ministerial Council, while GTECCC provides advice on ethical issues relating to gene technology and on matters of general concern to the community in relation to GMOs.
Nomination packages can be accessed via the links below or on request from the OGTR. Packages include information about the regulatory scheme, the functions of each committee, requisite expertise and experience of members, indicative workload and the nomination forms.
Nominations must be submitted to the OGTR by 31 May 2010.
