Australian General Practice Training program

The Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program offers up to 900 postgraduate vocational training placements in 2011 for medical graduates wanting to pursue a career in General Practice in Australia.

The AGPT program is currently going through a period of growth. AGPT program entry places increased to 700 in 2010, up from 675 in 2009. Further increases will see the annual intake rise to 900 in 2011, 1,000 in 2012, 1,100 in 2013 and 1,200 ongoing from 2014.

General Practice Education and Training Ltd oversees delivery of the program through 17 Regional Training Providers. Registrars choose either the Rural or General pathway.
