National Indigenous Health Workforce Training Package

The package contributes to mentoring, supporting and encouraging Indigenous doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and Aboriginal health Workers to work in health. It also promotes a national approach to education, training and up-skilling of Aboriginal Health Workers directly aimed at increasing Indigenous health workforce capacity.

The following organisations and networks are funded under the National Indigenous Health Workforce Training Package:

• Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association - advocates improvements in Indigenous health in Australia and encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to work in medicine.
• Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses - promotes the recruitment and retention of Indigenous peoples in nursing.
• National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Association - provides a range of communication resources to assist members keep up-to-date with developments in their profession.
• Indigenous Allied Health Australia - aim is to further develop a stronger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander allied health workforce and continue to encourage more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians to take up careers as allied health professionals.
• Leaders in Indigenous Medical Education - a network to ensure the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning of Indigenous health in medical education and curricula as well as best practice in the recruitment and retention of Indigenous medical students.
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Registered Training Organisation National Network - a network of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
